ABOUT AIRWALLEX
Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.
We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. HOW YOU'LL MAKE IMPACT
You'll help manage external RFI and inquiry workflows from correspondent and partner banks, law enforcement agencies, regulators and other competent authorities, ensuring cases are triaged, investigated and resolved within the required SLA.
You'll review cross-border payment journeys, SWIFT messages, account activity, counterparties, linked accounts and customer KYC information to build clear transaction narratives and provide accurate written explanations.
You'll partner with Financial Crime Compliance, FIU, Transaction Monitoring, KYC, Financial Partners, Legal, Sanctions Compliance, Commercial and regional Operations teams to make risk-based decisions while maintaining strong standards for data protection, regulatory compliance and documentation.
You'll also contribute to case quality, process improvement, playbook updates, management reporting, remediation actions, audits and regulatory examinations.
You'll work from CONFIRM: office location five days a week.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essentials
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in financial crime operations, AML investigations, transaction monitoring, sanctions compliance, law enforcement response or correspondent banking within a bank, payments institution or fintech.
- Direct experience handling correspondent or partner bank RFIs and law enforcement or regulatory enquiries.
- Experience leading or coordinating an operational team, workflow or case management function, including workload allocation, SLA management and quality assurance.
- Strong understanding of cross-border payments, correspondent banking, payment networks, SWIFT messages and virtual account flows.
- Strong knowledge of AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and financial crime risk concepts, including common typologies in international payments.
- Experience conducting or overseeing account activity reviews, transaction analysis, KYC reviews, open-source research and risk-based recommendations.
- Sound judgement when handling sensitive information, data protection considerations, urgent escalations and competing stakeholder expectations.
- Proven ability to manage high case volumes and strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy, consistency and audit-ready documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with external financial institutions, law enforcement agencies and internal senior stakeholders.
- Highly organised, analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to build clear customer and transaction narratives from fragmented information.
- Comfortable working with multiple systems, datasets and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Proficiency in Mandarin.
- Experience working with Financial Crime Compliance, FIU, Transaction Monitoring, KYC, Financial Partners, Legal, Sanctions Compliance, Commercial and regional Operations teams.
- Experience supporting AML/CTF, sanctions, data protection or financial crime projects, regulatory change implementation or control enhancement initiatives.
- Experience maintaining RFI playbooks, templates, guidance notes, escalation frameworks or knowledge repositories.
- Experience developing dashboards or management reporting covering volume, ageing, SLA, quality, root causes and risk themes.
YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF
- You hold yourself to a high standard even when no one is watching. Quality and accountability aren't external expectations, they're internal ones.
- You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.
- You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.
- You over-communicate by design. You'd rather flag something early than let it become a surprise.
- You value in-person collaboration and are happy being in the office five days a week.
LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR TEAM
Operations at Airwallex is where global ambition gets translated into systems that actually hold at scale.
This team runs the high-stakes flows businesses depend on — payments, accounts, and cross-border transactions. The work sits at the intersection of product, compliance, and customer experience. The problems are rarely simple: balancing speed with rigor, global consistency with local reality, and immediate execution with the stronger systems a growing company needs next.
It's a function for operators with a builder mentality: trusted to take ownership, work cross-functionally with product and risk, and create new processes for things that have not existed before.
If you want to help build the operational backbone of a global financial platform, this is work that keeps the whole machine moving.
