fal Research Grants
fal·United States
Free compute on fal for researchers and developers working on open source AI projects. No published amount, no application form: you email grants@fal.ai with the project.
What you get
Can you apply
The fal Research Grants program is open to anyone passionate about advancing AI through open source projects. Whether you're a seasoned researcher or a self-taught developer, we welcome your applications. No formal degree is required.
When
Always open, applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
What fal funds
fal runs generative media inference (image, video, audio) and gives away credits on its own model library to seed the apps built on it. Three programs split by who you are: indie builders in Europe and Asia get a small credit pack through a partner referral, teams with traction or venture backing get a larger one that scales with spend, and open source AI researchers get compute by emailing the grants team.
Everything fal funds →Details
Aimed at open source work rather than products, and open to self-taught developers as well as academics (fal states no formal degree is required). Past recipients include Moondream and BiRefNet. fal publishes no grant size, no deadline and no decision time, so the figure is whatever they agree with you.
Read off the fal page on 29 Aug 2026. Funders move amounts and eligibility without announcing it, so confirm any figure here before you count on it.
