Can you apply
All applicants must be actively enrolled in a PhD Program from a university or academic institute. Research must produce formal academic research published in venues such as conferences or journals. Research output must be open-access with a free and permissive license.

What Ethereum Foundation funds
Through its Ecosystem Support Program, the Ethereum Foundation funds free, open-source, non-commercial work that strengthens Ethereum's foundations: builder tools, infrastructure, cryptography and protocol research, education and community development. Support is directed toward enabling builders rather than end-users.

An ESP grant round rather than a Wishlist or RFP item. ESP describes rounds as "time-limited funding opportunities focused on specific themes or areas of interest. Each round has its own application deadline and selection criteria." Applicants submit a PDF proposal against a template aligned to one of the round's designated research focus areas, spanning economics, political science, computer science and other disciplines. Multiple applications are allowed if each proposal is unique. As of capture the Open Rounds page stated "There are no active grant rounds at this time."
